Hypertension, aka high blood pressure, occurs when the force of blood against arterial walls is increased in relation to the amount of blood being pumped through your heart. Just as too much air in a balloon can cause it to burst, hypertension can threaten the health of your blood vessels which may lead to heart disease and stroke. Heredity, diet, smoking, obesity, and diabetes are all common factors that may lead to hypertension. Approximately 73-million Americans suffer from hypertension.
There is an alternative that may help. A study done at the University of Chicago on participants with hypertension were given specific chiropractic adjustments. The results showed a marked decrease in blood pressure that is equivalent to taking two prescription medications (1). In some cases, chiropractic treatments have helped to significantly lower the dosage of hypertension medication (2). Modification of dietary habits in conjunction with daily exercise, and regular spinal maintenance, are key in maintaining proper health. Modern chiropractic clinical practice can help achieve this goal.
