Q&A WITH MATTHEW KERR
What are you most passionate about professionally? Personally?
I would have to say professionally I am most passionate about my patients! Without them, I would not be able to do what I love so much. I am passionate about coming to work and improving the overall quality of life of every individual that comes in to see me. Personally, I am very passionate about education as a way to improve my knowledge whether that is reading a wide range of books, listening to podcasts or watching documentaries.
What three traits define you?
Intuitive, Driven, and Confident.
What would you do even if you didn’t get paid to do it?
I would be an artist! Specifically focusing on drawing and oil painting.
What are you surprisingly good at?
I am surprisingly personable. My mom has always said that I have never met a stranger. I think that I can find anything to talk to someone about and make them feel at ease in most situations.
What’s one thing you couldn’t live without?
It’s a guilty pleasure but I do not think I could live without cheese pizza.
What’s the biggest proof that you’re good at what you do?
The smile on my patients faces after a treatment. Knowing that I have helped them in a way they may not have originally thought would work and showing them that alternative healthcare can really help any and everyone!
What’s your biggest accomplishment?
My biggest accomplishment would be finishing graduate school and starting practice before turning 30.
What’s the weirdest job you’ve ever had?
It wasn’t the weirdest job but it was a job I would have never thought I would be doing. During my undergraduate work, I worked as part of a team teaching autistic children under five years old on a wide spectrum of autism. Many of the children I was teaching didn’t have language skills and I was a part of teaching many of them basic language.
What problems do you consistently solve for your clients?
The biggest problems I solve for my clients would be stress. It’s amazing how one emotion can be the root of so many other causes including neck and back pain, headaches or other emotional issues.
What are you complimented on most in your work?
I am complimented most on making my patients feel at ease when coming in for treatments. I am personable and I am able to meet people where they are to help them through their own healing process.
Who is your ideal client and why should they connect with you?
My ideal client is the person that has tried everything else and is coming in because nothing else has helped them. Showing this client that alternative healthcare can have amazing benefits just after a few treatments with acupuncture and small lifestyle changes can really have phenomenal outcomes.
What is your grand, audacious goal?
I would love to travel more! I have so many places that I would love to visit and I have a lot of catching up to do. I would love to visit China, Ireland, various places all over Europe and there are a few places here in the states that I would like to check off my list.
Do you have any other passions or personal goals that you would like to share?
Education is a big passion of mine and I would love to teach in the Chinese medical field in the future. I have also been tossing around bringing my experiences and education to the public through a book or podcast.
What do you do for fun in your spare time? What are your hobbies?
I really enjoy spending my downtime with friends and loved ones exploring Chicago finding new and interesting vegetarian restaurants or finding a place to enjoy a nice glass of wine. If I am not out exploring, I really enjoy relaxing at home with a movie or finding fun new shows to watch on Netflix.
Share something unique that most people don’t know about you:
In my younger years and a past life I was involved in Irish dancing. I competed in various places around the U.S. and performed shows as a part of my Irish dance team. I have also been known to dabble in learning and playing the Banjo.
