Sue Smith, MS LDN, is a licensed dietitian nutritionist with a passion for healing through proper diet, nutrition and lifestyle. She earned a Master’s degree in Human Nutrition from the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut. Previously, she received a B.S. from Benedictine University in Lisle, IL with a major in biology and a minor in secondary education. She has worked at several clinics doing nutritional counseling throughout the western suburbs of Chicago.
Sue was inspired to become a nutritionist because of her own health issues due to a diagnosis of lupus which was reversed with functional medicine, nutrition and supplements. She is passionate about helping others renew their health through a healthy diet. Sue takes a wholistic and personalized approach with her clients while allowing her clients to go at their own pace. She understands the importance of diet, nutrition and lifestyle in the reversal of symptoms towards the goal of optimal health. In her spare time, Sue volunteers as a raptor handler at a wildlife rehabilitation and education center in Glen Ellyn, IL.
Q&A WITH SUE SMITH
What are you most passionate about professionally? Personally?
I am most passionate about helping those diagnosed with autoimmune diseases reduce their symptoms and possibly reversing their disease through nutrition. Personally, I am passionate my volunteer work at the Willowbrook Wildlife Center where I am an interpreter and a educational raptor handler.
What three traits define you?
Persistent, honest, compassionate
What’s your biggest accomplishment?
Raising my daughter and getting my Master’s degree
How does your education connect to your professional career? What about personal experiences?
I received a Master’s in Human Nutrition so I could become a licensed dietitian nutritionist and help others have better health through nutrition. I have been a patient for 31 years of both Western and functional medicine and have compassion for and understanding of those who are chronically ill. I can give these people hope that they, too, can resolve their symptoms.
What problems do you consistently solve for your clients?
Getting clients to start thinking about what they can do for better health instead of just taking medications.
What are you complimented on most in your work?
I am knowledgeable and thorough.
Who is your ideal client and why should they connect with you?
My ideal client is one who is willing to do the work to get better and who have a vested interest in their health.
What do you do for fun in your spare time? What are your hobbies?
I like to be out in nature, whether I’m hiking, biking or just sitting watching the birds. I also have a vegetable garden and sew when I get the chance.
