What is Runners Knee?

A common condition experienced by athletes is patellofemoral pain syndrome – more commonly known as runner’s knee. Runner’s knee is defined as a dull pain around the front of the knee (patella), where it connects with the lower end of the thighbone (femur).

Some red flags of you may be experiencing this injury are anterior knee pain, difficulty getting out of chair, quad tightness, or pain walking down stairs.

Prevention for Runner’s Knee

  • Check integrity of knee joint, our Physical Medicine team can help strengthen your knee joint to meet your needs! Whether It be with kinesio tape or rehabilitation exercises.
  • Focus on stretching quads, hamstrings, hip flexors, activate glutes and hams firing patterns.
  • Bridges, wall sits, 1 leg squats are all great ways to strengthen your knee joint.
