Victoria graduated from The Soma Institute in May of 2016 with a 4.0 GPA. She specializes in deep tissue, trigger point therapy, and sports massage. Victoria is one of our prenatal certified massage therapists at Aligned. Originally from a small farm town just beyond the south suburbs, Victoria now lives on the north side of the city, and likes to spend her free time exploring all that Chicago has to offer. She spends her Sundays cheering on the Bears and recharging for the week ahead.
Q&A WITH VICTORIA
What are you most passionate about professionally? Personally?
I’m most passionate about helping people and encouraging them to grow as individuals. Sometimes that’s by means of massage and helping them to get to a place where they’re physically comfortable, sometimes it’s just talking to people and helping them put things in perspective.
What three traits define you?
Welcoming personality, talkative, love for pups
What would you do even if you didn’t get paid to do it?
Talk to people. There patients that come into the office and aren’t even my patient, but we still engage and chat.
What’s one thing you couldn’t live without?
Dogs. And music.
What’s the biggest proof that you’re good at what you do?
Patient’s improvements. And when they say things like “I’ve had so many massages but no one has been able to find the problem like you did.”
What problems do you consistently solve for your clients?
Postural pain. People spend 8-10 hours a day hunched over a monitor at their desk, providing some relief from that mental and physical strain is huge.
What are you complimented on most in your work?
Finding problem areas where the patient was unaware there was any problem, and giving substantial pressure.
Who is your ideal client and why should they connect with you?
Anyone experiencing chronic discomfort, athletes, weekend warriors, anyone concerned with maintaining functional movement. One of my passions within massage is injury prevention, it’s a lot easier and more comfortable for me to help keep you from getting hurt, than it is to help after the damage is done!
In your work or creative process, what concepts are sacred? Which rules have you made, which ones do you follow?
Educating patients on their condition and how what I’m doing helps. I also always mention self-care. You can spend an hour a week with me, but what really matters is what you do on your own time.
What is your grand, audacious goal? What do you wish people would know, believe, do?
I wish people understood that pain shouldn’t be the standard. It’s not “normal” to be uncomfortable, there’s a reason why and we can help!
