About Holly

Holly Carr began her path to Chinese medicine after meeting students of the local acupuncture school while working as a supplement buyer in Santa Fe, NM. She enrolled at Southwest Acupuncture College, and finished the program in 1999 with a Master’s of Science in Oriental Medicine. Her dedication to working with communities struggling with addiction lead to receiving Acu-Detox certification under NADA(National Acupuncture Detoxification Administration). She practiced in Minneapolis, MN, leading group acupuncture detox sessions at in-patient women’s facilities and at 12-step programs held in the city. Holly relocated to New York City in 2001 to join an integrative clinic, providing acupuncture mainly for pain relief. After meeting fellow acupuncturists at Lincoln Mental Center in the Bronx, she provided acupuncture to FDNY members at her local firehouse for several years. In 2013 Holly relocated to North Carolina and joined an integrative mental health practice, in collaboration with social workers and therapists. She also provided community-style acupuncture at substance-abuse treatment facilities. She is a licensed acupuncturist in Illinois, Ohio and North Carolina, and is Diplomate of Acupuncture by the NCCAOM.

Q&A WITH HOLLY CARR

What’s the biggest proof that you’re good at what you do?

When my patients smile, show relief and tell their friends and family.

Who is your ideal client and why should they connect with you?

Ideal clients are those who are going through transition in their lives: Changes in home and work lives, and the changes with the possibilities and limitations of aging. I accept that change is a truth in life and understand the how hard it can be to adapt but encourage flexibility.

In your work or creative process, what concepts are sacred? What rules have you made, which ones do you follow?

I follow the process until the goal is achieved, and realize there is much to learn along the way. New ideas may arise that can steer the healing and creative process into another direction. In collaboration with patients we can find the right healing direction.

How does your education connect you to your professional career? What about personal experiences?

Learning the history of Chinese Landscape painting exposed me to the tenets of Taoism. I recognized this while studying Chinese medicine, and see it in professional practice. Health is a reflection of the natural world, and optimal health happens when living in harmony with it. Personally the philosophy of Taoism has helped me with flexibility and acceptance of change.
